Historical Context
The Glen Class design (number 400) was created by A. Mylne & Co. in 1945, at a moment when British yacht design looked toward peacetime resumption. The office, established in 1896 and headquartered in Glasgow, had built a substantial practice across multiple yacht types and sizes by the mid-twentieth century. Glen Shesk, completed by Bangor builder W A Clapham in 1946, exemplifies the early post-war period when designers and builders began to re-engage with leisure sailing after wartime suspension. The Glen Class appears modest in scale and practical in intent, characteristic of designs suited to the gradual revival of recreational yachting in the British Isles.
