Historical Context
A. Mylne & Co. emerged from the Second World War with a portfolio of proven designs and a reputation for meeting owners' practical needs. The Glen Class, conceived in 1945, belonged to a cohort of modest cruising and racing designs intended for the post-war amateur sailor. Bangor, Co Down, was an established centre of wooden boatbuilding, and W A Clapham's involvement in building Glen Cuan reflects the geographic spread of A. Mylne designs throughout the British Isles. By the 1950s, as Glen Cuan was launched, A. Mylne & Co. had consolidated its position designing for a broad spectrum of vessel types and owners, from small day boats to larger cruisers.
