Historical Context
The Glen Class was developed by A. Mylne & Co. in 1945, at a pivotal moment in British yacht design. The Second World War had halted private yacht construction, and the post-war years saw renewed interest in modest, practical designs for leisure sailing. The Glen Class emerged during this period as a response to demand for small, economical wooden yachts. W A Clapham of Bangor was among the regional builders who constructed examples to A. Mylne designs. Glen Correl, completed in 1947, represents the early post-war years of the design office and the continuation of traditional wooden yacht building in Northern Ireland during the mid-twentieth century.
