Historical Context

A. Mylne & Co., established in 1896, was one of Scotland's foremost yacht design offices, producing work across the twentieth century. The 1920s represented a period of steady design output, with both larger ocean-going yachts and more modest day-sailers and cruisers in the practice's catalogue. The Glynn design (274) emerged in this context. Bute Slip Dock, located on the Isle of Bute, was a significant centre of wooden yacht construction in the Clyde region. The survival of Lackagh provides evidence of the durability of pitch pine and oak construction and the continued utility of early Mylne designs.
