Historical Context

A. Mylne & Co.'s design office, founded in 1896 and active through the mid-twentieth century, produced designs across a broad range of yacht types. Design 274, the Glynn class, originated in 1920 during the office's established period. Enler, built sixteen years later in 1936, represents a continuation of demand for modest, traditionally constructed cruising yachts in the 1930s. A Malcolm of Bute was among the established boatbuilding firms in western Scotland that realised Mylne designs. The construction of pitch pine on oak remained standard practice in British yacht building throughout this era.
