LD-65 is a powerful, high volume cruising yacht inspired by the herring drifters which once worked off England’s East Coast. Her traditional lines and classic rig hide the greenest of electric propulsion & power technologies - an all electric on board systems for heating, cooking and lighting as well as twin electric drive motors. A powerful 60kw DC generator lives in a capacious deck locker on the port side, leaving the interior clear to be configured to owners specifications. The large glazed transom with its toughened and laminated 18mm glazing provides for a very bright interior, especially when combined with the specially designed double glazed bronze portlights.
The deck is bounded by a solid bulwark supported by substantial stainless steel bulwark stays. The large deck area is broken up with a foc’s’le access hatch, the 14in diameter solid wooden mast amidships, and wooden deck house to port leaving space to stow a good size dinghy on the starboard side. A deep deck locker on the port side provides for sail and wet gear storage and houses the powerful generator. Her deckhouse design is inspired by the Mylne yachting tradition, and provides a pilot berth and access to charting and instrumentation.
Steering is by tiller, though wheel steering is an option. Autopilot and electric steering is provided by a dedicated hydraulic system.
Propulsion is by twin 24in propellers on shafts driven by two 60kw electric motors. This will give excellent silent manoeuvrability and control, especially when combined with the bow thruster unit fitted forward.
For those wishing to step up from a Bristol Pilot Cutter to something a little larger, the open plan LD-65 lends itself to many configurations and possibilities.
